canal
Calgary, Canada, March 27, 2008

Last week, NRI Pargat Singh Kahlon, 70 was identified through
DNA tests by RCMP whose decapitated body, (frozen human headless
remains) was found on Feb. 18, north of Chestermere near an irrigation
canal.
He was seen withdrawing cash $2,500 from an ATM on Feb. 12. He
liked to help his son in India with this money. For the last five
years, he had lived at the Sikh Society of Calgary temple and
providing services such as making tea for visitors, volunteered
his time to clean the temple, helped interpret the holy book and
distribute parshad.
The Sikh Society of Calgary office member said he spoke with
Kahlon just days before he went missing. He said Kahlon wished
he could go back to India again soon. He was loved so much by
the congregation at the Sikh temple. He was a Canadian citizen,
retired and lived on a government pension.
The police do not know if he knew his attackers or was randomly
targeted, adding he could not say if the visit to the bank is
linked to the motive behind the killing. Mr Foster, police officer
said in his 17 years police career, he had never seen such a extreme
violence and is disturbing. His body was wrapped and he had been
badly beaten.
Pargat Singh Kahlon has three daughters, two living in Surrey,
BC and one in India. He has one son who lives in India. His wife
lives in India and flew in to join her family.
Kahlon's granddaughter told media that he was a really nice grandfather
and we just don't know why anybody would do this to him. This
is a really hard time for my family right now.
