Vikrant Thakur, 42, An NRI in Australia, has appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of his wife, Supriya Thakur, 36, while denying the more serious charge of murder.

Thakur, who appeared via video link from custody, made the plea on legal advice, telling the court, “I plead for manslaughter, but not guilty of murder.” Prosecutors charged him last year after police were called to the couple’s home in Northfield, Adelaide, on December 21, 2025, following reports of a domestic disturbance. Officers found Supriya unconscious, and despite CPR efforts, she could not be revived.

Manslaughter is a lesser offence than murder, generally applied when a death occurs without direct intent to kill, while murder requires proof of intent or premeditation. The case will now return to court in April, as investigators continue to gather evidence including forensic and medical reports.

Friends and community members have organized a fundraiser to support Supriya’s young son, describing her as a devoted mother known for her caring nature.
