In Ontario, a dedicated task force within the Peel Regional Police is actively investigating 29 cases of extortion targeting South Asian businesses. This specialized unit has taken decisive action by laying charges against five individuals implicated in the alleged extortion schemes.
Notably, these incidents in Ontario align with a broader pattern observed in British Columbia and Alberta. Authorities suggest that these extortion efforts are part of a coordinated operation originating from India. The interprovincial nature of these activities underscores the need for collaborative efforts among law enforcement agencies to address and dismantle such criminal networks.
