Hindustan khush
hua!
Bahrain. March 05, 2006
By Dr. Prem Joshi,
I would like to share some of my views on this week's thought aired
by some news channels (e.g. Star News "Kuen karen Bush ko khush").
From his very important speech which President Bush delivered on
his arrival in Delhi to the one at Purana Qila and Hyderabad, I
do not share the above thought of the media and news channels.
Instead of saying "Bush ko India kuen kare khush", I would
say that "Bush ne kiya India ko khush".
I believe that his speech about India was the best ever presented
by any other Presidents of the US. His speech contained such praiseworthy
words about contemporary India that he has publicly acknowledged
India as a world leader in all aspects.
He was very much focused and reminded us that our history, rich
traditions and culture, and valued democracy are the best in the
world and that is why Americans see India and Indians with great
respect.
Therefore, we should feel proud about this.
I believe that his 35-minute speech was not a speech; rather it
was a thesis about India's global contributions. He covered all
aspects of democracy, peace, economic prosperity, India's pride,
direction and future perspective of India's growth.
He touched upon, with great respect, India's pride: our leaders;
the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, our great economist
and the Prime Minister Dr Singh, Kalpana Chawla and tennis sensation
Sania Mirza.
He has quoted four times the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi. None of
the foreign dignitaries, who have visited India in the past, have
ever quoted Mahatma Gandhi so profusely, as Bush has. He did not
touch upon the cardinal conflict issue of Kashmir.
He openly appreciated the contributions made by 2 millions Indians
in America in the areas of business, education, technology, medicine,
etc. He appreciated the role and contributions being made by 80,000
Indian students in the US universities. He appreciated the role
of 300-million middle-class population in India for wanting to transform
the socio-economic scenario of the country.
He touched upon the agricultural issues and development using the
modern technology.
He has publicly declared that India is the US strategic partner
not only in trade and economic fronts but also in maintaining world
peace and bringing democracy in the world.
His presentation was so impeccable that intellectuals might have
been taken aback and might have to change their perceptions about
his personality.
Hence, I do not subscribe to the thoughts why India should make
Bush happy. Rather it was Bush trying to make India happy.
I give 8.5/10 success rating to Bush's visit to India.
