A 50-years-old NRI Peter Virdee, also known as Hardip Singh, appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court on May 23, 2024, facing charges related to a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation into bribery. He stands accused of bribing Asot Michael, a Member of Parliament and Government Minister of Tourism, Economic Development, Investment, and Energy for Antigua and Barbuda, between January 2015 and July 2017. The alleged bribery was purportedly intended to benefit PV Energy Ltd, a company where Virdee holds a directorship.

Alongside Virdee, PV Energy Ltd was also charged with failing to prevent bribery in connection with the same incidents. The charges stem from allegations that Virdee sought to influence Michael, a foreign public official, in matters concerning energy and development projects in Antigua and Barbuda.

During the court appearance, Virdee was granted bail pending further proceedings scheduled at Southwark Crown Court on June 20, 2024. The case highlights significant international dimensions, involving allegations of corruption and illicit influence over government affairs. The NCA's investigation underscores the seriousness with which authorities are addressing transnational bribery and corruption allegations, particularly involving public officials abroad.

Virdee's legal representatives have not publicly commented on the charges. As the case progresses, it is expected to draw attention due to its implications for corporate governance and international relations, given the involvement of a high-profile businessman and allegations of bribery aimed at influencing governmental decisions in the Caribbean nation.
