REVISION OF ELETORAL ROLLS TO BE TAKEN UP ON OCTOBER 1-----KUSUMJIT SIDHU

Chandigarh June 28:  Ms. Kusumjit Sidhu, Chief Electoral Officer Punjab while presiding over a meeting of the representatives of the Political Parties namely Indian National Congress, Bhartiya Janata Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Sharomani Akali Dal, Nationalist Congress Party and Communist Party of India (Marxist), said that the Draft Publication of the electoral rolls would be taken up on October 1 in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. Period for filing of Claims and Objections would be October 1st to November 1st 2011. Claims and Objections could be filed with concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Booth Level Officer (BLO). Besides this the relevant part / section of photo electoral rolls would be read out in Gram Sabha/Local Bodies and Resident welfare association meetings on 8th October and 11th October, 2011.

          Adding further Ms Sidhu said that the verification of the duplicate votes and the details of the voter would be done by BLO in the month of July and August. Referring to achieving a target of 100% Electoral Photo Identity Cards in the State, she said that the department has already initiated a special campaign to achieve the target well in time. Regarding the enrollment of Service Personnel as proxy voters, Ms Sidhu said that as per the guidelines of Election Commission of India Form No. 13F duly filled by the service elector could be send to the ERO for necessary action.

          The Chief Electoral Officer has asked the representatives of all the political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLA) before the publication of electoral rolls. She has also urged the political parties to fully co-operate with the district administration so that the election process could be completed smoothly. 

          Mrs. Usha R. Sharma, Senior Additional Chief Electoral Officer and Mr. Raj Kamal Chaudhury Additional Chief Electoral Officer were also present in the meeting.

PUNJAB TO SETUP ‘PENSIONERS GRIEVANCES REDRESSAL CELL’

 CHANDIGARH, JUNE 28: The Punjab government has decided to setup ‘Pensioners Grievances Redressal Cell’ with an aim to instantly resolve the grievances pertaining to pensioners and their families.  

            Disclosing this here today, Punjab Local Bodies and Industries Minister Mr. Tikshan Sud said that the State government was committed to redress the problems of pensioners besides delivering instant services to the pensioners across the state and the formation of this cell was also the part of ‘Pensioners Welfare Program’.  

            The Minister made this announcement after holding a meeting with the delegation of Karamchari Cell led by its President Mr. Pritpal Singh. The delegation raised several issues and registered their plaints with the Minister. After hearing the problems of delegation, Mr. Sud said that the grievances pertaining to pensioners and their families would be resolved on priority basis besides formation of a ‘helpline’ for pensioners. 

            Prominent amongst other included General Secretary of Karamchari Cell Joginder Singh Kanwal, Senior Vice President Rajinder Singh Garcha, Members Ramesh Chander, Rajwinder Singh and Harkrishan Rai were accompanying the delegation.

PROPOSED PUNJAB LIBRARY ACT
SEKHWAN CONSTITUTES 9 MEMBER COMMITTEE TO STUDY THE SUGGESTIONS OF EXPERTS'

Chandigarh, June 28: Punjab Education Minister Mr.Sewa Singh Sekhwan today constituted a 9 Member Committee to study the suggestions of experts regarding draft Punjab Library Act. PSEB Chairman Dr. Dalbir Singh Dhillon has been made the convener of the Committee and it was given a stipulated time frame of three months for submission of final draft after analyzing the suggestions.

          The Minister informed that besides one each representative from Punjab University Chandigarh, Punjabi University Patiala and Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, Director Language Department, Punjab, Senior Journalist Mr. Satnam Singh Manak , Punjabi Sahit Academy President Dr. Gurbhajan Gill, Mr. Om Parkash Gaso and Mr. Sukhdev Singh, Librarian, Khalsa College Amritsar  would be the other members.

          Mr. Sekhwan said that the Punjab government has recently decided to enact Punjab Library Act to encourage the younger generation for reading quality literature besides reviving the book culture in the state.  He revealed that each village would have a modern library with facility of computer equipped with Internet. He said that draft of the act would be soon sent to all Universities , Literary Organization, NGOs working in education sector besides to prominent writers for their expert views.

MUNGO APPOINTED AS ADDITIONAL ADVOCATE GENERAL PUNJAB
CHANDIGARH JUNE 28:

            The Punjab Government today appointed Mr. Gian Singh Mungo as Additional Advocate General with immediate effect up to February 29, 2012 on contract basis.

            Disclosing this here today the spokesperson of the Punjab government said that Mr. Mungo would be at the disposal of the state government and would do all the relevant work related to criminal, civil and misc. cases, entrusted to him by the state government.

PUNJAB POLICE SIGNS MOU TO ENSURE QUALITY EDUCATION TO THE WARDS OF POLICE PERSONNEL
JOIN HANDS WITH MAHANT KAHAN SINGH  TO PURSUE SOCIAL CAUSES OF EDUCATION, DRUG DE-ADDICTION AND PREVENTION OF FEMALE FOETICIDE  

Chandigarh, June 28: Punjab DGP Mr. P.S. Gill and Mahant Kahan Singh, Chairman of Various renowned educational institutes today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pursue social causes of education, drug de-addiction, and prevention of female foeticide thereby ensuring welfare of the Society.
 
Disclosing this here today, Mr. P.S. Gill, DGP said that the wards of Police personnel interested to obtain education in these institutions shall be given mutually agreed discount in the charges/fees and the Punjab Police may also offer financial assistance from Police Personnel Welfare Funds in lieu of services received for the wards of the Police personnel. 
He further said that the officers of the level of IGP/Zonal of the respective areas, where the aforesaid educational institutions were situated, shall be ex-officio members of the Management Committees on behalf of the Punjab Police to assist the management of these institutions. 

Mr. Rajinder Singh, ADGP/Policy & Welfare, Punjab informed that both the would create an eco-friendly environment between Punjab Police and general public with an aim to make the image of Punjab police better besides curbing crime and to tackle the social evils including drug addiction, female foeticide, dowry & unemployment besides providing interface between the families of Police personnel and the educational institutions for healthy understanding between Police personnel and the Society.
 Earlier, Punjab DGP Mr. P.S. Gill, after signing the Memorandum of Understanding had thanked Mahant Kahan Singh, who was accompanied by his associates Sh. Agyapaul Singh, Sh. Harpreet Grover, Sh. SAD-BJP GOVERNMENT COMMITTED TO ENCOURAGE FARMERS TO DIVERSIFY-SANDHU

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 28: Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Agriculture Mr. Harmit Singh Sandhu today reiterated the resolve of SAD-BJP government to provide total support to the farming community to diversify in the agriculture sector to make it more remunerative for farmers.

          Assuming the post of Chief Parliamentary Secretary   in the presence of scores of Akali Dal and BJP stalwarts here today Mr. Sandhu said that congress led UPA government has stabbed in the back of farming community by not linking MSP with wholesale price index. He said that every policy announced by the union government was designed to crush the farmers of Punjab. He said that from the debt waiver scheme of union government only 0.9 % farmers of Punjab got the benefit whereas they were contributing more than 70 % to the central pool. He said that opening the marketing of Agriculture produce, allowing their export through land route and a package to the farmers opting for cash crops was the only answer to the ills of farm sector.

LINING OF 17767 KMS OF IRRIGATION MINORS TO BE COMPLETED AT THE COST OF RS. 1913 CRORES - GHURIANA

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 28: Mr. Gurtej Singh Ghuriana Chief Parliamentary Secretary Irrigation today said that SAD-BJP government was committed to strengthen the minor irrigation network in the state by completing relining of 17767 irrigation minors at the cost of Rs. 1913 crores.

          Taking over as Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Irrigation in the presence of galaxy of Akali Dal and BJP leadership here today Mr. Ghuriana said that Congress government during their 40 year tenure in the state never bothered to maintain irrigation network. He said that it was Mr. Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister Punjab, who set aside a corpus of fund to reline irrigation minors. He said that it was for the first time that irrigation minors were being relined with 9 inch toe wall against earlier specification of four and half inch toe wall doubling the life span of irrigation.

          Lashing at Congress led UPA government for not sanctioning Rs. 3700 crores irrigation package for the state, Mr. Ghuriana said that if Congress continued to adopt step motherly attitude towards Punjab the granary of the country, days are not far off when Punjab could be reduced to a desert. He said that SAD-BJP government would ensure proper irrigation water to every farm land especially located at tail ends.

ROTATIONAL IRRIGATION PROGRAMME FOR KHARIF SEASON    ANNOUNCED

Chandigarh, June 28:

The Irrigation Department, Punjab has announced the Rotational Programme for irrigation for the Kharif Season through Canal water from 01-07-11 to 08-07-2011. The channels of Sirhind Canal System would run on the priority basis from Sidhwan Branch, Bathinda Bist Doab, Branch, Abohar Branch and Patiala feeder respectively.
Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the irrigation department said that direct distributaries of Bhakra Main Line in group 'A' being in the channels of first preference will run to their indent and  balance water supplies available will be utilized in Ghaggar Branch and its off taking channels i.e Ghaggar Branch and Patiala Minor in Group 'B'  respectively.

The spokesman further said that all the direct distributaries of Sirhind Feeder in group 'A'  being in the First preference will run to their indent and balance water supplies available would be utilised in Abohar Branch off-taking from Sirhind Feeder and its distributaries/Minors in  Group 'B'.
 
The spokesman also said that the channels off taking from upper Bari Doab Canal i.e. Lahore Branch with its distributaries being in the channels of first preference would run to their indent and balance water supplies  available would be utilized in Main Branch Lower, Kasur Branch Lower, Sabraon Branch with their distributaries respectively.

PUNJAB TO ENSURE REGULAR HONORARIUM TO MID DAY MEAL WORKER

  • DEOs TO SUBMIT MONTHLY STATUS REPORT ON PROGRESS OF MID DAY MEAL SCHEME

 

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 28:  The Punjab government today ordered to ensure regular and time-bound honorarium to all the workers under Mid Day Meal scheme at par with the norms setup by Union Government.  It was also decided to increase the number of workers under Mid Day Meal scheme according to the ratio of students.

          According to official spokesman, these decisions have been taken in a high-level meeting between the State Government and the office bearers of Mid Day Meal Workers Union, Punjab. The meeting was presided over by Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Punjab Mr. Darbara Singh Guru.

          The Spokesman said that the meeting was convened following the directions of Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal to review the working and status of Mid Day Meal scheme in the state. He said that necessary instructions have been issued to the concerned departments to ensure the availability of a cooking gas cylinder in each school across the state within one month. He said that Government has also strictly directed the concerned authorities to hire one person for 25 students while 2 persons would be hired in case the number of students would be between 25 to100.

He said that it has been made mandatory for the District Education Officers and Block Primary Officers to furnish the monthly status report of the working of Mid Day Meal scheme in their respective areas before the Secretary Education, which would further be forwarded to Principal Secretary to Chief Minister. He said that the Punjab government would again convene a meeting after one month to keep check on the progress of the scheme.  Prominent amongst others who were present included: Secretary School Education, Mr.  Husan Lal, Secretary Finance Mr. KBS Sidhu and Director General School Education B. Purushartha were also present.
