GHAZIABAD, OCTOBER 26, 2004

Two property dealers have been arrested in a case where the duo, along
with a sub-inspector, cheated a non-resident Indian (NRI) of Rs 1.14
lakh and his Zen car. The sub-inspector is absconding.
The investigating officer, Inspector G P Yadav said, "The police
officer will soon be arrested. NRI Jasbir Singh's report has been found
to be true."
According to Yadav, Jasbir Singh's son, Ajit was running a service
centre in a plot owned by one Anil Kasana, in Garima Garden in Ghaziabad.
Later, he shifted his service centre to another plot. But, Kasana declined
to return the Rs 50,000 security deposit Ajit had earlier given him.
Meanwhile, said Yadav, "Property dealers Sanjiv and Shahbuddin,
who were known to Ajit, said they would help him get his money back."
He further added: But, actually, they had planned with a sub-inspector
to cheat Ajit's father, Jasbir Singh. So, they asked Ajit to tell his
father to meet them. The appointment was fixed for early last week."
When Singh arrived in Ghaziabad, Sanjiv and Shahbuddin took him to Tila
Mor, where Sub-inspector R K Rathi of the Muradnagar police station
was already waiting. Rathi allegedly dropped some smack in Singh's Zen
car and accused Singh of being a 'drug smuggler'. He said he would book
Singh for drug smuggling if he did not 'cooperate'.
Then, the trio took Rs 1.14 lakh from Singh. They also made him sign
sale papers saying he had sold his car to Sanjiv and already received
the payment for it.
Then, three days ago, Sanjiv filed a report at the Sahibabad police
station, saying Singh had taken away his car.
When the police arrived at Singh's Lakshman Vihar residence in Delhi
to investigate the matter, Singh rushed to meet J N Singh and told him
the whole story, who ordered an investigation in the case. Following
the inquiry, a case of cheating was registered against Rathi, Sanjiv
and Shahbuddin. Sanjiv and Shahbuddin were arrested and the hunt is
on for Rathi.
