Kochi, Mar 3, 2005
Global Kerala Foundation, an umbrella
organisation of Keralites the world over, will adopt
100 government schools in the State to provide necessary
infrastructure facilities.
Talking to newsmen here yesterday, its working chairman
G Rajamohan said, three schools at Nattika in Thrissur
and one each from Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram,
would benef through the project in the next academic
year.
As part of the ''better school-better citizens,''
project being implemented in coordination with the
Higher Education Department, the organisation would
identify other needy schools across the State.
It had been found that majority of the 12,539 government
schools lacked basic facilities like drinking water,
toilets and other necessary infrastructure.
The Foundation will give a civic reception to
its global chairman M A Yousuf Ali, here on March
five. Ali was recently honoured with the Pravasi Bharatiya
Samman by the Union Government.
Union Minister of State for NRI Affairs Jagdish Tytler,
Kerala Ministers Vakkom Purshothaman, E T Mohammed
Basheer and BJP leader Muktar Abbas Naqvi, would attend
the felicitation function followed by a musical nite.
