NRI Ruby Dhalla, Former MP, is vowing to fight back after the Liberal Party of Canada disqualified her from the leadership race over 10 alleged violations, which she insists are politically motivated.
A party source also claimed she failed to disclose the involvement of a non-Canadian citizen in her campaign—an act that could have constituted foreign interference had it occurred during a general election.
Dhalla Calls Decision ‘Shocking and Alarming’
Dhalla was informed of her disqualification live on television while appearing on CBC’s Power & Politics.
“I think it speaks to the state of the Liberal Party of Canada that a candidate running to be leader and prime minister is finding out she is being disqualified on air,” Dhalla said.
She strongly denied the allegations and accused party officials of attempting to clear the path for Mark Carney, the presumed front-runner.
“They did not want anyone challenging Mark Carney,” Dhalla said. “I will not allow the Liberal Party of Canada or anyone to smear my name.”

Dhalla has since announced she is formally appealing the decision. The party’s appeal process allows candidates to challenge their disqualification, though it remains unclear how long the review process will take.
For now, the controversy has deepened divisions within the Liberal leadership race, raising questions about internal party dynamics and transparency.
