The festival of Teejri was celebrated by the Sindhi Community on August 10, 2017 at The Sindhu Center, Norwalk. The festival of Teejri falls on the 3rd day after the full moon. Married Hindu women pray and keep a fast for the health of their husband while the unmarried pray for the marital bliss.

Around 8:30 PM, everyone gathered at the Temple with a Pooja Thali. After performing the Pooja and Aarti, everyone waited for the moon to show; since the fast can only be broken after seeing the moon.

As per ancient holy books, Goddess Parvati fasted and prayed fervently for the great Lord Shiva to become her spouse. Touched by her devotion, he took her for his wife. Goddess Parvati, in gratitude, sent her emissary to preach and disseminate this religious fasting among mortal women, promising prosperity and longevity of their husband. This was the beginning of the festival of Teejri. The observer beautifies herself adorning her body with ornaments, dresses in bright colors and decorates her hands and feet with henna.

The function was organized by Sarla Sippy, Ratna Butani and Meenu Hemrajani.
