“RANGLA PUNJAB 2023” A Sold Out Spectacle
& Vibrant Window to Punjabi Culture in Chicago

The Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago (PCS)  flagship annual event “Rangla Punjab” to celebrate Vaisakhi festival, was held on March 25, 2023, at MAC Auditorium, College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Illinois. This was the 29th year of this event by Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago.

More than 1000 attended. Nearly 260 children and adults from Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin participated performed Punjabi folk dances Bhangra, Giddha, Punjabi songs, played dhol, other music, purchased products from vendors, and socialized. The object is to promote local talent.

Dr. Bhupinder Singh Saini, former Chairman and founder of Advanced Pain Management, SC was the chief guest. PCS Chairman Nick Balwinder Singh and dozens of Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsors and hard working PCS board members, coordinators and volunteers made the program possible.

"Rangla Punjab '' is the single largest annual Punjabi cultural event in the Chicago area that promotes the local community talent and showcases the Punjabi performing arts to a family audience for three decades.

"Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago volunteers train and provide a platform to the local Punjabi artists to nurture and grow their talents. New generation from age 6 years to seasoned artists 60 and over participated," said PCS Chairman Nick Balwinder Singh, a well known and respected businessman in the area.

"Rangla Punjab” event helps Punjabi youth come closer to their heritage, Punjabi language, culture and community. This indeed is a great community building effort,” said Bhupinder Singh Dhaliwal, the P.C.S. President, " I am proud of our most hardworking, dedicated, best ever PCS team," he added.

The colorful costumes, elegant postures of Bhangra and Giddha, mesmerizing rhythems of Jhumar, energy and funfilled Malwai Gidha Boliaan, comedy skit, songs, and the high quality level of all performances made it an very enjoyable and truly Rangla Punjab evening, that the audience was truly impressed with.

The program ended with a raffle drawn out of the attendees tickets. An I-Pad, I-Pad Mini, and an Apple watch were the prizes given to the winners, Mrs. Mangat, Harjit Singh Gill, and Lakhbir Singh Sandhu

PCS Vice president Manjeet Singh Bhalla welcomed the attendees and started the evening program with the U.S. National anthem sung by Ragini  Singh, followed by singing of Sikh prayer hymns by Aneel Singh, Avar Singh and Dr. Amrit Singh Anand.

The evening event of 28 performance items was divided into three parts which included Punjabi folk dances Bhangra and Giddha, Punjabi folk music and songs and a comedy skit with a deeper message. The program was emceed by Ransher Singh Kaler, Seerat Kaur Kaler, Gurleen Kaur, Manpreet Kaur Bhalla and Simran Kaur Bhalla.

Dance items were prepared by the efforts of Karen Parmar, Mandeep Kumar, Kiran Bhalla, Aman Kular, Harjit Kaur, Sanya Mahajan, Gia Dhaliwal, Jasmine Hunjan, Raj Dhaliwal, Payal Virdi, Kawaljeet Kaur, Navjodh Singh, Neha Sobti, Navtej Sohi, Avneet Aujla, Ravinder Dhanesar, Gurmukh Bhullar, Sonny Judge, and Sukhvir Kaur Dhillon.

Punjabi songs were rendered by Soumay Kambli and Mitesh Kambli. Mona Bhalla sang and performed on the Punjabi folk song “Latthe Di Chadar Utte..”

Navtej Singh Sohi and Rajinder Singh Mago provided backstage support to the performing teams, emcees and the stagehands. Jigerdeep Singh Dhillon provided support to the sound and light technicians and arranged security.

Bhupinder Singh Dhaliwal, Bhinder Singh Pamma, Vick Singh, Parvinder Singh Nanua, and Jasbir Singh Palia helped with the awards distribution.

On the front end Balwinder Singh Girn, Mohinderjit Singh Saini, Gurpreet Singh Sidhu, managed ticket sales, Paramjot Parmar managed ushers, and security, Harwinder Paul Lail coordinated VIP dinner catered by Singh’s Kitchen.

Gurlal Singh Bhattal managed the finances, Vick Singh managed food for the participants and volunteers. Balwinder Girn and Bikram Sohi brought water bottles and provided back end support. Parvinder Nanua, Iqbal Singh Saini, Gurmit Singh Dhillon, Gurpreet Singh Girn, Yadwinder Singh Grewal and several other volunteers lined up the performing teams in order.

Manjeet Singh Bhalla managed the vendors booths in the lobby.

Several other volunteers helped with the costumes, turban tying, and bringing the young performers back stage for performance line-ups.

PCS President Bhupinder Singh Dhaliwal welcomed the audience, special guests, thanked the participants and the sponsors, and introduced the PCS Board of Directors, Advisors and Governors and PCS Chairman Nick Balwinder Singh who presented recognition plaques to Bronze and Silver Sponsors.

Rajinder Singh Mago introduced Consul Ranjit Singh of Indian Consulate in Chicago who presented plaques to the outgoing PCS President Parvinder Singh Nanua and outgoing Chairman Kevindeep Singh Atwal for their excellent services.

Mago further invited the Chief Guest Dr. Bhupinder Singh Saini who distributed plaques to the Gold Sponsors. Dr. Saini in his speech said that PCS has been doing a great job in promoting Punjabi Culture and performing arts in the Chicago area, and congratulated the whole PCS team for a hugely successful and sold out event. Chairman Nick Balwinder Singh along with the PCS Officials honored the chief guest Dr. Saini with a large plaque for his continuous support to PCS. 

Many parents congratulated and expressed their appreciation for PCS for continuing to provide opportunities, free coaching and a platform to keep their kids connected with our Punjabi culture.

The event was organized by the PCS Officials, with the help and support of many item coordinators, volunteers, and community sponsors.

We recommend that next time please purchase your tickets for this most popular event in Midwest USA, Rangla Punjab well in advance," said Mohinderjit Singh Saini PCS Board of Governors.
