Los Angeles NRIs, celebrated India's 59th Republic Day
commemorating
Shaheed Bhagat Singh's centenary

On Sunday, January 27, Federation of Indo-American Associations of Southern California (FIA-SC) celebrated India's 59th Republic Day by commemorating Shaheed Bhagat Singh's centenary at Diamond Bar Community Centre, 1600 South Grand Ave, Diamond Bar, Calofornia. There were more than 400 NRIs including local leaders attend the function who enjoyed songs, bhangra and dinner.

The congregation came alive with the touch of patriotic and devotional music rendered by the local NRIs. Preetpal contribute audio visual on shaheed Bhagat Singh and was appreciate by FIA-SC team.

Surinder Singh Bhogal, president of Federation of Indo-American Associations of Southern California (FIA-SC) greeted and congratulated the NRI community on the solemn and happy occasion of India's Republic Day. He said:

  • The date was officially chosen as Republic Day because it was on January 26, 1950, constitution of India came into force and India became a truly sovereign state. On this day India became a totally republic unit.
  • It was a matter of gratification that India was doing very well in her developmental endeavours and we should all be proud of it.
  • I salute the great Indian freedom fighters and honored by Sardar Bhagat Singh's sacrifice at the age of 23 who was shown us this day of Independent Day

 

Mr. Dinesh Bhargava, chairman of FIA-SC said:

  • We made utmost efforts to represent the Indian community in Southern California. I beleive, away from our motherland we should share our good fortune and be there for each other and no community member should be without help or hope in this great land of opportunity.
  • I would like to congraulate and wish all the best to our new President for 2008 Mr. Surinder Singh Bhogal

United State House representative, Gary Miller said it is great privilege that I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Federation of Indo-American Associations of Southern California (FIA-SC) for hosting the celebration India Republic Day. I wish the entire Indian community a day of great celebration and future success.

City of Diamond Bar's Mayor Jack Tanaka said I am proud of your hard work and the success that you have achieved. It is wonderful day to educate the younger generation of the beauty and richness of Indian Culture. On behalf of Diamond Bar City Council and the residents of this city, I am extending my words of appreciation for hosting India's Republic Day.
