Punjabi classes at Gurdwara Nanak Niwas in Richmond are in full swing. These classes are held every Sunday between 10 AM and 4 PM. The students are very excited to get connected with the language of their parents/grandparents.

The teacher, Ms. Shaminderjit Kaur has adopted hands on approach for the students. As they learn to understand, speak, read and write Punjabi, they also learn a lot about our community and the Sikh religion. For example, a few days ago the students showed interest in the Nishan Sahib and its significance in the Sikh religion. So as part of her last week’s classes, Shaminderjit took each of her classes separately to the Gurdwara’s Nishan Sahib and explained to them the significance of Nishan Sahib in the Sikh religion.
Next week, the students will be learning about Diwali including the Bandi Shorre Divas and Guru Hargobind ji. Incidentally, the admission to the Punjabi classes is still on-going. Interested parents should feel free to contact me at 604-836-8976 or the Gurdwara Sahib at 604-274-7479. Thanks.
