London is second most expensive city
in the world
- Two-bedroom apartment, on average only Tokyo is costlier
than London.
- Last year London was rated the seventh most expensive
on a list of 144 international cities, behind Tokyo, Moscow, Geneva,
Osaka, Hong Kong and Beijing. Appreciation of the pound against the
US dollar, allied with high accommodation and transport costs, has pushed
the city into second place.
- Renting a luxury unfurnished two-bedroom apartment
in London is 1,950
pounds a month, compared with 840 pounds in Dublin, 1,311 pounds
in Paris and 908 pounds in Rome.
- New York, as the base city, scored 100 points, Tokyo
scored 130 and London 119 points.
- London to be among the worst capitals in Europe for
quality of life
- Madrid, Lisbon, Rome and Athens are worse off in terms
of health, public
services, transport, housing and recreation.
