Indonesia-based, industrialist NRI,
Prasun Mukherjee donated Rs 10 lakh to Dravid for
setting up of a cricket academy here named after his
mother Debjani Mukherjee. He also promised to donate
Rs 50 lakh for the academy. Later Dravid handed over
the cheque to West Bengal Municipal Minister Ashoke
Bhattacharjee, Cricket captain, Sourav Ganguly, his
deputy Rahul Dravid and speedster Irfan Pathan today
took on a new avatar appealing to the people to protect
and preserve the wild treasures of North Bengal.
In a joint appeal they said, ''Please
ensure that when we go abroad to play we can with
pride cite example of North Bengal's unique bio-diversity
which is our national wealth. We wish that you all
will keep our request so that we can hold our heads
high. On our part we assure you that by winning matches
we too can make you feel proud of the country,'' read
the statement by batsman-wicketkeepr Rahul Dravid.
The trio was given a red carpet welcome
in Kanchenjunga Stadium where at least 20,000 people,
mostly students, were present
In July, 2003, Prasun Mukherjee signed
a memorandum of understanding with the West Bengal
government for setting up a 10 MW thermal power plant
at Dishergarh in Burdwan district. Mukherjees
Universal Sussex and Jakarta-based firm Kaltimex Energi
at a cost of $12 million will set up the power plant
within the next two years
The chief minister has been inspiring
us for investments in West Bengal. We have plans to
set more power plants in the state if Dishergarh project
turned into a success," Mukherjee said.
