California, NRI Jasbir Singh alleged abduction mastermind of SBI Bank Assistant Manage in Chandigarh -
to pressure his wife Kiran to withdraw divorce case against him in US Court

NRI Jasbir wanted his wife Ms. Kiran to withdraw divorce case from the court. To pressure Ms. Kiran he arranged for the kidnapping of his brother-in-law Mr. Lekh Raj, SBI Bank Assistant Manage in Chandigarh. Mr. Lekh Raj, was abducted from his residence in Sector 15 yesterday evening.

On the basis of the information provided by the wife of Lekh Raj, Ms Inderjeet Kaur (Kiran's sister), Chandigarh DSP, S. C. Sagar, contacted the California police. Jasbir Singh’s estranged wife Ms Kiran also gave the statements before the U S Police by telephone about Jasbir Singh’s involvement in the abduction.

Ms Inderjeet Kaur told the police that few persons had come to her house couple days back to pressure Ms Kiran for withdraw the divorce case from US court. Jasbir Singh had threatened to abduct Lekh Raj’s children if Ms Inderjeet Kaur did not pressure her younger sister Kiran to withdraw cases against him. Jasbir Singh was facing divorce case appearance in a U S court on July 2, 2004

It is a surprise example and great job done by international police and it took only 10-12 hours to release Lekh Raj:

  • The Chandigarh police took action very fast, contact to US police recorded transcontinental statements over phone
  • To register the case officially, the Chandigarh and US Police asked the estranged wife of Jasbir Singh, Ms Kiran, to talk to him and record the conversation as evidence against him. Jasbir got very upset when he was told on his mobile phone that the police had arrested some of the abductors.
  • The California police asked Jasbir Singh to give this direction to the kidnappers. He immediately phoned the abductors to release the bank manager.
  • The kidnappers took Lekh Raj to Hariana village in Hoshiarpur District, where they came to know that a red alert had been sounded in that area
  • The Chandigarh Police in the meantime, kept the pressure on the kidnappers by telephone and tracking their mobile. The Punjab Police also played major role and raided the house of abductor on the basis of information provided by the Chandigarh
  • The Chandigarh Police had arrested a few persons in Patiala and the main conspirator in India Tarsem Singh from Tanda in Hoshiarpur.
  • Under pressure by the US Police and the Chandigarh Police, and telephone by Jasbir, the kidnappers gave Mr. Lekh Raj Rs 250 to board a bus from Mubarakpur in Una.
  • US-based, NRI Jasbir Singh, the alleged abduction mastermind of Lekh Raj, is facing arrest in California after he was charged with felony in connection with the abduction from Chandigarh yesterday. Mr. Charley Bruce Mitchell, told Kiran that his arrest was imminent and that the matter had been moved to a local court.
  • Kiran's District Attorney Seymore Rose, saying that the hearing on the arrest of Jasbir Singh was taken up in the California District Court and the verdict was awaited.
