A memorial service to honor the 21 year old fallen U.S. soldier Sergeant Uday Singh

PALATINE, Illinois: A memorial service to honor the 21 year old fallen U.S. soldier Sergeant Uday Singh, of Lake Forest Illinois will be held at the Sikh Religious Society of Chicago’s Gurdwara (a Sikh place of worship), at 1280 Winnetka Street, Palatine Illinois 60067, (phone 847-358-1117), on Saturday January 17, 2004, at 1 pm to 3 pm.

The services are open to public and the media. Several hundred people, family members, many dignitaries, and elected officials including Illinois' Governor, US Senators, Congressmen and Mayors are expected to attend.

The services will include Keertan (singing of hymns from Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh holy scripture), prayers, and eulogies from the family, friends, community leaders, and dignitaries followed by refreshments and fellowship. Uday’s parents Preet Mahinder Singh and Taneya Singh, sister Bani Kaur, mother Manjit Kaur, uncle Prem Jay Datt and aunt Harpreet Kaur Taunque Datt will attend the service.

The official memorial services for Sergeant Uday Singh are being held at
Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC on January 8, 2004 at 1 pm, where the family from India and Illinois, community at large and a Sikh priest and diginitaries from DC area will participate. These services will be led by the Brigadier General O'Niell. http://www.arlingtoncemetery.org/

The "Sergeant Uday Singh Memorial Foundation" has been established to support a permanent memorial in Lake Forest, and a scholarship in Sergeant Singh's memory.
