Satish K. Tripathi is currently dean of Bourns College of Engineering at the Riverside campus and will take over as UB's chief academic officer July 1, according to a UB statement. The provost is the number two official at a university, overseeing instruction, research and other day-to-day operations. Tripathi replaces Elizabeth D. Capaldi, who took a job in administration with the State University of New York in January, according to a report in Buffalo News.

Professor Satish K. Tripathi received his Ph.D in Computer Science from the University of Toronto. Dr. Tripathi joined the Computer Science faculty at the University of Maryland in 1978. He served as the Department chair during 1988-1995. In March 1997, Dr. Tripathi joined the University of California at Riverside as the Dean of Engineering and the William R. Johnson, Jr. Family Professor of Engineering. He is also a professor of Computer Science. He is a Fellow of IEEE and AA

For the last twenty years Dr. Tripathi has been actively involved in research related to computer networks, real-time systems and fault tolerance. He has more than a hundred papers in international journals and refereed conferences. In the networking area his current projects are on mobile computing, ATM networks, and operating systems support for multimedia information. He has supervised more than 15 Ph.D students
