Telecom industry expert Sam Pitroda today met Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh and discussed a number of issues, including e-governance, education
and science and technology.
"It was a general discussion. We talked about various sectors
like education, science and technology, benefits and issues involved
in e-governance," Pitroda said after a brief meeting with Singh.
Pitroda, who is a member of National Advisory Council, said Singh was
very positive about new frontiers in IT related areas and eductaion.
"In the past the focus on information and communication technology
in Rajiv Gandhi's era gave us the drive and we see results today with
100 million phones and our success in IT and sofware. It took us 20
years almost to achieve that. So what can we think through today (could
be) for the next 20 years," he said.
"Together we all explored and looked at global situations, prioritisation,
market economy... is all here to stay. PM was very positive... was very
enthusiastic about exploring new frontiers. He recognises we have to
go by bigger vision and dreams for our young", he said.
"There will be some follow-up, the PM has shown interest,"
Pitroda said, adding more discussions would crystalise some of the ideas
discussed today.
Pitroda had yesterday met Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek
Singh Ahluwalia.
