Parminder Nagra. Born in Leicester in 1975 and from
a Punjabi family. "Bend It Like Beckham" marks Parminder Nagra's
feature film debut. Television credits amongst other's include series
regular in "Holby City" (BBC); "Goodness Gracious Me"
(BBC); "Small Potatoes" (ITV); and "Casualty" (BBC).
Also played the lead role in the play "The Square Circle"
at the Leicester Haymarket Theatre. Parminder, who went to Rushey Mead
School, got her first taste of acting when she first trod the boards,
as a very shy young thing, at the Leicester Haymarket Theatre. She left
the theatre in 1995 and went to London to follow a career in acting.
She returned to Leicester in October, 1997, to perform in "Tainted
Dawn" with the London-based Tamasha Theatre Company. Her big break
came when she was offered a lead role in the 2002 film "Bend it
Like Beckham," opposite fellow Brit starlet Keira Knightly. The
film, in which Parminder played an aspiring footballer, received international
acclaim. Her performance caught the eye of ER producers who then offered
her the role of Dr Neela Rasgotra, the first Asian character in this
