KABADDI AT MILLENNIUM PARK IN CHICAGO ON JUNE 23

Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago (PCS) will present the popular Indian sport Kabaddi at Millennium Park, Wrigley Square in Chicago on Sunday June 23 at the “World of Games” organized by City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and the Chicago Office of Tourism. The millennium park is located at Michigan Avenue and Randolph street. Kabaddi is at 2:30 pm.

“The program is free and runs from 11 am to 4 pm. A presentation of Kabaddi game played between the players from Metropolitan Chicago is at 2:30 pm – 2:55 pm in the main Lawn, and the interaction with spectators to teach the game will be at 3 pm – 4 pm in Lawn #2,” said Mohinderjit Singh Saini the P.C.S. participation coordinator.

There are a spectrum of games people play in Chicago that have their roots in countries around the world. Staged demonstrations at Millennium Park on June 23 range from the popular Italian pastime, bocce to the highly skilled martial arts of Asia and Brazil and American Double Dutch. Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago is presenting Kabaddi at 2:30 pm. The Association of Pakistani Americans is presenting Carrom Board. Bring your family and try your hand at a variety of board games, engaging children's games, kite making and more.

“P.C.S. is proud to present our ethnic sport Kabaddi to the American mainstream by participating in this Chicago event. We are encouraging our community members to take their families to the ‘world games’ on June 23 at Millennium Park,” said Bhinder Singh Pamma P.C.S. president.

“This is our second year to bring Kabaddi at an official mainstream event in Chicago,” said Rajinder Singh Mago, PCS board of governors, “P.C.S. was also the first to organize Punjabi Bhangra dance performance at White Sox and Detroit Tigers baseball game at Cellular Park two years ago, and we are regular participants at the State Street Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago” he added.

The World of Games is part of Art of Play: Summer in Chicago 2007, a citywide celebration of toys, games and the spirit of play from June 1 to September 30. Art of Play is a collaborative effort with Chicago cultural organizations, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, the Chicago Office of Tourism, the Mayor's Office of Special Events, and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Bureau of Tourism.
