The Pune girl, Shital Mahajan who set a world record in para jumping,
married to NRI Vaibhav Rane, a software engineer from Finland, around
600 feet above the earth in a hot air balloon. The priest Milind
Bildikar Guruji and her father, Kamlakar Mahajan also accompanied
the couple in the small basket tied below the hot air balloon.
Sheetal Mahajan, has made a record by becoming the first woman
in the world by a free fall para-jump over the North Pole on April
18, 2004, from 2400 feet, in minus 37 degree celsius
temperature. She was awarded the Shivchhatrapati State Sports Award
in 2004-05 by Government of Maharashtra.
On Dec 15, 2007, She jumped from 15,000 feet over the South Pole
at minus 38 degrees Celsius. She was awarded the prestigious Tenzing
Norgay National Adventure Award by then president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
Sheetal became the first amateur woman in the world to jump over
both poles without trials.
She said, "I wanted to get married in a unique manner and
decided to get married in a hot air balloon. With the support of
my family, Vaibhav's family and my friends, I have achieved it."
NRI Vaibhav Rane had done para jumping a couple of times in Finland.
Now we are are planning to set a world record in para jumping as
a couple.
