NEARLY 600 RECEIVE FREE HEALTHCARE SERVICES AT FIFTH ANNUAL ANAHEIM HEALTH FAIR EVENT ONCE AGAIN SUCCEEDSTHANKS TO ONGOING COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIP

When the idea of bringing a “free” health fair to the City of Anaheim was proposed to Anaheim Mayor Pro Tem Harry Sidhu by Pravin Mody of Anaheim-based GBS Linens and Dr. Nitin Shah in association with Anekant Community Center in 2007, the groundwork was formed for what has now become an important annual event.

For the fifth year in a row, the City of Anaheim continued its efforts to encourage healthy living through this collaboration by providing free health screening and consultation services to nearly 600 individuals during the Anaheim Health Fair held at Brookhurst Community Center on Sunday, June 12, 2011. Among the services provided: over 400 blood tests were performed; more than 70 EKGs; over 100 pap smears; more than 80 mammograms; and over 125 bone density assessments.

“What a wonderful opportunity this event provides for access to healthcare services ensuring the highest quality of life,” said Anaheim Mayor Pro Tem Harry Sidhu, acknowledging the following health fair partners: The City of Anaheim and its hardworking staff; the Anekant Community Center, and its devoted members, along with Dr. Nitin Shah and the many Indo-American medical specialists volunteering their services at the event; The Anaheim Chamber of Commerce; and Grand Sponsor Pravin Mody, GBS Linens, Inc.

Importantly, Mayor Pro Tem Sidhu, Dr. Nitin Shah, and Pravin Mody all gave very special thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who joined together to once again make this year’s event such a success – including all of the dedicated medical doctors and medical specialists, assistance volunteers, and translators. In doing so, Dr. Shah shared a Chinese proverb that emphasized: “If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.”
