ANAHEIM CITY COUNCIL APPOINTS HARRY SIDHU TO SERVE AS MAYOR PRO TEM FOR THE 2010 CALENDAR YEAR

Anaheim, CA, Dec. 10, 2009

Anaheim, CA – By majority vote on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, the Anaheim City Council appointed Council Member Harry Sidhu to serve as Mayor Pro Tem for the 2010 calendar year. By Anaheim City Charter, the Mayor Pro Tem performs the duties of the Mayor during the Mayor's absence or disability.

Mayor Pro Tem Harry Sidhu is committed to encouraging a thriving business culture and economic development in the region that will create jobs, housing, and meet the needs of the taxpayers. His achievements while in office include: initiating a free annual health fair in the city; supporting a charter amendment which was placed on the November 2006 ballot to forever prohibit Kelo-type eminent domain abuse in the City of Anaheim; and implementing an annual Anaheim/OC Job Fair & Expo.

“During my tenure on the Anaheim City Council, I have been dedicated to improving the lives and opportunities for all through common sense leadership,” said Mayor Pro Tem Sidhu. “With a proven record of protecting the needs of our taxpayers, families, and business owners, being ‘tough on crime’ and fostering a positive/pro-active approach in our communities, our work is never done. I have strived to ensure transparency in government, accountability, fairness in economic development, jobs creation, and public safety. As a successful business owner, I have also brought practical, real world experience and ‘can do’ knowledge to the halls of government. Consequently, our residents and businesses have experienced greater freedom of choice and opportunities.”

With the current economic challenges facing all who live, work, and do business in North Orange County, Mayor Pro Tem Sidhu has given considerable thought to how he may best continue to serve and make a difference. He is proud to have won the office of councilman for two terms, and the same core values that propelled him into business guide him in wanting to return good service to all levels of government.

“I am seeking to serve through a regional leadership position on the Orange County Board of Supervisors,” he explained, “because the taxpayers need and deserve ‘makers’ not ‘takers,’ and a strong, problem-solving voice on the Board from a representative who has reliable business understanding, as well as background experience in implementing innovative reforms, such as economic stimulus incentives, to effectively meet the challenges ahead. We must keep Orange County moving forward in a positive, economically diverse, and fiscally sound direction.”

He is honored to have the support of Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle in his candidacy for Orange County Board of Supervisors, 4th District. As stated recently by Mayor Pringle: “I have had the great pleasure to work with Harry Sidhu on the Anaheim City Council over the past five years. Harry is planning a run for the 4th District Supervisorial seat, and I am supporting Harry for that election.”

Harry Sidhu was elected as the first Indo-American to serve on the Anaheim City Council in 2004 and re-elected to a second term by a significant margin in November 2008. He currently serves on the City Audit Committee and has focused on keeping fees low and managing costs as an Orange County Sanitation District Director. More information on Mayor Pro Tem Sidhu’s candidacy for OC Supervisor will soon be available on his campaign website: www.JoinHarry.com.
