Peter Mathews for Congress Campaign Headquarters is Opened

The Mathews for Congress campaign has opened a new headquarters at 4501 E. Carson St., Long Beach, CA 90808. It is one block from Long Beach City College, which, along with Cypress College and Cal State Long Beach, account for 70,000 college students, most of whom live in the 47th district and can vote for College Professor/Educator Peter Mathews.

Running in the Long Beach/North Orange County 47th Congressional district in the June 5 California Open Primary, Professor Peter Mathews has his best chance of victory for the following reasons: This is an Open seat, with no incumbent, and it Leans Democratic. The Voter Registration is 43% Democratic, 32% Republican, 23% Independent, with an 11 point Democratic advantage. Democrat Jerry Brown beat Republican Meg Whitman by 8 points in the 2010 Governor's race in this district. It is the home of 70,000 college students attending California State University Long Beach, Cypress College, and Long Beach City College, and Mathews, Professor and Educator for 26 years in the district, is a natural fit.

The citizen voting age population (CVAP) is 19% Asian, 8% Black, 20% Latino, 53% White. In the June 5, 2012 California Open Primary election any voter can vote for any candidate for US Congressional Representative, regardless of political party. The top two vote getters in the primary move on to compete in the November 2012 General Election, regardless of political party.

Since there are 4 Republicans competing for the 32% of voters that are Republican, each Republican candidate will probably end up with approximately 8% of the votes cast. Since there are only 2 viable Democrats, Peter Mathews and his fellow Democrat will split the 43% of
the voters that are registered Democrats, and Mathews and his fellow Democrat will probably
end up with approximately 22% of the votes each. With the 23% Independent vote in the district leaning Democratic, Peter Mathews and his
fellow Democrat may win even more than 22% of the votes each. This likely result will ensure that Democrat Peter Mathews and his fellow Democrat will probably be the General Election candidates in November, having come in at first and second place in the June Primary.

Most of Mathews' 20,000 former students live and vote in the 47th Congressional District. Mathews will win the bulk of these votes as long as he can reach them through mass mailing.
