Biden pardons nearly 1,500 people, including four NRIs

President Joe Biden has granted clemency to nearly 1,500 people, marking the largest single-day act of its kind in recent memory. Among those whose sentences were commuted are four NRI : Meera Sachdeva, Babubhai Patel, Krishna Mote, and Vikram Dutta. Their original sentences ranged from 17 years to life imprisonment.

President Biden emphasized the significance of offering second chances and addressing sentencing disparities, particularly in non-violent, drug-related cases. He noted the importance of fostering justice and reducing inequalities that have persisted in the criminal justice system.
