Hounslow’s new mayor is Cllr Darshan Grewal.

May 24, 2005

His appointment was formalized at last night’s Borough Council meeting (24 May 2005).

Cllr Grewal, who is also a councillor on the Hounslow Heath ward, joined the council in 1988 and is a former Executive Member (representing the regeneration portfolio). Following the tradition of previous mayors, Cllr Grewal has chosen two charities to represent. He hopes to raise much-needed funds for adolescent services on the Starlight Ward at West Middlesex University Hospital, and for Friends of Ludhiana, supporting The Christian Medical College and Hospital.

Cllr Grewal has lived in Hounslow since 1988. He is a graduate from Punjab University and was an international basketball player for the India team. He is currently a Governor for The Heathland School in Hounslow.

Speaking of his appointment, Cllr Grewal said:

"I am delighted and truly honoured to take on the role of Mayor of our Borough. I am looking forward to a year in which I can do my best to promote the London Borough of Hounslow, serve our community, and work towards a safe and harmonious Hounslow. I also aim to dedicate my time to promoting and raising funds for local charities.”
