March 26
Brampton, March 23, 2009
Candice Debi
In response to the growing incidents of drugs, guns, gangs, and
violence amongst youth in Brampton Dr. Ruby Dhalla, Member of Parliament
for Brampton Springdale has joined with the Brampton-Springdale
Youth Advisory Council (BSYAC), teachers, principals, and community
members, to host a forum on Youth Violence.
BSYAC was created to empower youth to actively participate in designing
and developing solutions for issues and challenges that confront
them.
On March 26th 2009, BSYAC will present its first annual Youth Forum
in partnership to listen to the ideas and solutions for a safer
community.
"Youth are the future of our city and community. We must ensure
youth are empowered and have a voice in making the change they want
to see happen. This forum will allow for greater dialogue between
youth and community members to discuss strategies and solutions
on the issue of youth violence” says Dr. Dhalla.
In attendance will be representatives from the Region of Peel,
Members of Parliament, Peel Police as well as Brampton families
who have lost their sons and daughters as victims to youth violence
in Brampton this past year. These families will share their stories
and provide feedback for initiatives to create greater collaboration
between all community residents and stakeholders to build a safer
community.
The Forum will take place on March 26th 2009 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm
at Century Gardens Recreation Centre (Room 3) located at 340 Vodden
Street East. Everyone is invited to voice their ideas, opinions,
concerns, and solutions.
