What is hot news today, in all newspaper of
Canada ?
- Dhalla caregiver controversy a symptom of much larger issue:
agency
- Canada's second sexiest MP and the world's "third hottest"
female politician.
- Dhalla's mother a world traveller despite live-in caregiver
- She could face up to two years in jail for the things she is
accused. Problem for Ruby is that Michael Ignatieff, her leader,
is treating her like she has already been convicted.
- Man arrested after Ruby Dhalla receives death threats.
- Accusations from the nannies, some may be true and some may
not
- Call for Ontario minister's resignation over handling of nanny
abuse allegations
In a statement to the Star, Ruby Dhalla has
vehemently denied she had anything to do with interviewing,
hiring or supervising any of the caregivers who worked at the family
home.
Toronto man, Gabriel George, 20 was arrested on Sunday
when he made the threats during a call to the MP's office on Saturday.
He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Lyle Alvarez, 32, a third nanny also made a complaint
of being severely overworked and underpaid. She said:
- She worked more than 12-hours a day, and was "paid under
the table" for the nine days she worked there
- Ruby's mother, Tavinder Dhalla, a hard-driving taskmaster, forced
her that all dishes must be washed by hand every day, clean walls
and hardwood floors daily.
- She had to polish shoes of Ruby and her brother
According to local news papers, Alvarez inquired from Tavinder
Dhalla "about her papers" on several occasions. "I
cannot stay here (and) work with you as an illegal. I want to be
legal." Then Alvarez took up the case with Ruby Dhalla, who
she said promised to sponsor her through the Live-in Caregiver Program
at the end of her week-long trial period. Dhalla told her she would
get her proper documentation and told her: "I work at the Parliament.
I have a friend in immigration that can help me regarding your papers."
Alvarez decided to quit and look for legal work elsewhere, when
no immigration papers were filed.
Other two nannies claimed that they were interviewed and hired
by Ruby Dhalla. She also took and held their passports for most
of the time they worked at the home.
-------------
Our Toronto NRIpress reporter concluded:
- We have no idea whether she is guilty or innocent of any of
them. The law is very complicated and accusations from the nannies,
some may be true and some may not.
- Can you make a judgrement from listening to Conservative and
NDP members?
- The ball started hurtling down the hill when very unhappy two
nannies made their statement at a provincial town hall meeting
that was closed to media. The media started taking interviews.
It is also very clear that no related complaint had been filed
with Ontario’s Ministry of Labour. Keep in mind, Ruby Dhalla,
herself had asked to the Ethics Commissioner for a review of the
facts. Ruby Dhalla smartly resigned her critic’s post to save
her party the agonies of this circus.
Liberal MP Ruby Dhalla
is already on the precipice
of political ruin. Her political career and personal reputation
were also close to ruined. Time will tell whether Ruby Dhalla is
culpable or not.
If we are not mistaken this is not the first time we have read
about domestic workers who have publicly accused employers of abuse.
Majority of the employees were proven in court that they lied.
