Brampton, Ontario – With the support from volunteers, community
member and dedicated constituents Dr. Ruby Dhalla has won the seat
of Brampton-Springdale for a third consecutive election.
Dhalla being ushered in to Victory Party
“My victory in Brampton-Springdale was a win for every woman,
man, senior and child that believes in equality, hard work and respect.
This campaign was about the ideas, dreams and aspirations of the
constituents of Brampton-Springdale. I want to thank my constituents
for their support, my volunteers for their passion and my family
for being my pillar of strength” said Dhalla.
Despite the result of a Conservative Minority government, Dhalla’s
win ensured Liberals kept a strong hold on the riding with the largest
South Asian demographic in the country.
Dhalla has brought extraordinary experience, passion, and perspective
to her role as the Member of Parliament for Brampton Springdale.
She made history in 2004 as the first South Asian Women to be elected
to federal parliament in the western world and was subsequently
re-elected on January 23, 2006 by the support of her constituents.
She is currently the youngest woman in Canadian Parliament and has
served as the Official Opposition Critic for Health and for Social
Development, as well as Vice- Chair of the Standing Committee for
Human Resources and Social Development.
”With the continued support of my constituents I look forward
to ensuring we build a community and nation, in which all Canadians
have the power to believe, achieve and succeed" says Dhalla.
