Rakesh Khosla
Rakesh Khosla was born in 1952, in Hariana Village,
in India. In 1976, Rakesh immigrated to Nova
Scotia and since then has made his home in Halifax.
Rakesh decided to run as a Conservative Party
candidate in the coming federal election while
in India assisting in the rebuilding after the
tsunami that devastated part of coastal south
east Asia in December, 2004.
Rakesh has also been actively involved in politics
for a number of years. Rakesh has been a volunteer
in numerous federal and provincial elections
for the constituencies of Halifax West, Halifax
Bedford Basin, and Halifax Clayton Park. He
also participated in the 1991 Progressive Conservative
Policy Conference, the 1993 PC Leadership Convention,
and placed second in the candidate nomination
vote in Halifax West in 1993.
Rakesh has taken an active interest in his
community over the years, including being a
member of the Reference Support Group to the
provincial nominees for Visible Minorities to
the Labour Force Development Board of Halifax.
As well, Rakesh served on the Local Board of
Administration for the Grace Wesleyan Church
and as a board member of the Crisis Pregnancy
Centre in Halifax. However, Rakesh has not forgotten
his native home. From 1998-1999 Rakesh was the
President of the Metro Halifax chapter of the
National Association of Canadians of Origins
in India.
Rakesh works as a self-employed commissions
agent in the Life and Health Insurance profession
and is part owner of Khosla Seafoods. Rakesh
and his wife Veena have two grown sons, Peter
and Paul.
