Charging an Indian origin political leader with making
racist comments against Africans, South Africa's human
rights commission has asked him to apologise.
The minority front led by Amichand Rajbansi had published
an advertorial in a community newspaper, which allegedly
contained some racist comments, rights commissioner
in Kwazulu-Natal Prof Karthy Govender said after releasing
a report on the issue.
The article was referred to the HRC by the mayor
of Durban, Obed Mlaba, who claimed the MF was promoting
racialism in the city.
Asking Rajbansi to apologise "unreservedly and
unequivocally", he said the mf leader should
put mechanisms in place to ensure that such actions
were not repeated by his members.
