- Krishna Bharat, the Google Principal Scientist who conceived
the idea for Google News
- Following September 11, I realized it would be useful to
see news reporting from multiple sources on a given topic assembled
in one place

BIO:
Krishna Bharat was born in India and grew up in Bangalore. He
went to St. Joseph's Boys' High School in Bangalore and got:
- undergraduate degree in computer science from Indian Institute
of Technology, Madras. IIT, Madras is considered as prestigious
university in India
- a Ph.D from Georgia Tech in Human Computer Interaction.
He worked at the DEC Systems Research Center where, with George
Mihaila, he developed the Hilltop algorithm (US Patent), assigned
to Hewlett Packard.
In 1999, he joined Google.
At Google:
- Krishna Bharat developed so-called LocalRank (US Patent),
which can be considered to be an adaptation of Hilltop
- He leads a team developing Google's news product.
- Aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, he is the creator
of Google News, a service that automatically indexes over 25,000
news websites in more than 25 languages to provide a summary
of the News resources.
Since then, it has been a huge hit and a popular offering from
Google's services. It is interesting to note that Google News
was one of Google's first endeavors beyond offering just plain
text searches on its page.
