U.S. Enforces Visa Ban on Foreign Officials Involved in
Illegal Migration Facilitation

Protecting the nation’s borders is crucial for enhancing U.S. safety, strength, and prosperity. Countries situated along migration routes have a responsibility to help prevent and deter the unlawful movement of people attempting to enter the United States.

In response, the U.S. has implemented a new visa restriction policy targeting foreign government officials, including those in immigration and customs, as well as airport and port authorities, who knowingly assist illegal immigration. This applies to officials who either neglect to enforce immigration laws or enact policies that deliberately allow the passage of individuals attempting to unlawfully enter the U.S. via the southwest border.

This new measure complements the 3C policy, which was expanded in 2024 to address private sector actors facilitating illegal immigration by offering travel services.

These restrictions will remain in effect until these officials ensure that immigration laws are being enforced and policies are in place to prevent illegal migration. The U.S. remains steadfast in its commitment to securing national interests and upholding its laws.

The visa restrictions are based on Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which authorizes the Secretary of State to deny entry to individuals whose presence could negatively impact U.S. foreign policy. Certain family members of these officials may also be subject to these restrictions.
