In a major enforcement action under President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, the United States has deported 205 Indian nationals who had entered the country illegally. According to media reports, the deportees were flown back to India on a U.S. military aircraft after their identities were verified by Indian authorities.
The aircraft departed from Texas, and sources suggest that more such deportation flights are expected in the coming days as the U.S. intensifies its crackdown on illegal immigration. Trump, who returned to the presidency on January 20, 2025, has prioritized stricter border control measures and deportation of undocumented immigrants.
Following a recent phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump stated that India would cooperate in repatriating its citizens staying illegally in the U.S. He expressed confidence that India would take appropriate action in such matters.
Since his re-election victory on November 5, 2024, Trump has been pushing aggressive immigration reforms. In his inaugural address, he emphasized his administration’s commitment to halting illegal border crossings and deporting undocumented immigrants. “All illegal entry will immediately be stopped, and we will begin the process of sending millions of criminal aliens back to their countries,” he declared.
India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who attended Trump’s swearing-in ceremony, reaffirmed New Delhi’s stance on accepting the return of Indian nationals living unlawfully in foreign countries. During a press conference in Washington, Jaishankar reiterated that India has always upheld this policy and clarified it to U.S. officials.
Meanwhile, the White House confirmed that Trump and Modi had a “productive” discussion about strengthening bilateral ties, including cooperation on immigration-related issues.
