US issues over 50,000 H-1B visas to Indians

As many as 50,000 H-1B visas have been granted so far, out of imposed cap of 65,000 visas by the American government, the Rajya Sabha was told on Thursday.

Remaining 15,000 visas were in process, Minister of State for External Affairs Rao Inderjit Singh said while replying to a question.

NRIs: A net amount of 18,885 million US dollars and 3,628 million US dollars of remittance was sent by private transfers and non-resident Indian deposits respectively by NRIs from different parts of the world between 2003-04, Minister of State (independent charge) for NRI affairs Jagdish Tytler said.

Overseas citizenship has been provided to persons of Indian origin in 16 countries including USA, UK, Switzerland, Canada, France, Australia and Italy, Tytler said.
