Visa Bills Stalled Until 2005
July, July 06, 2004
Those people like to to get a work visa for the U.S.
are facing a difficult prospect these days, with all work visas under
scrutiny, and tremendous competition.
-
High-tech employers and immigration
attorneys are calling for lawmakers to raise the annual H-1B work
visa limit (cap) and make L visas easier to get as well.
-
Labor unions and unemployed techies
argue that there are more high-tech workers in the U.S. than there
are jobs, and that no foreigners should even have a shot at these
jobs.
- Bills for both H-1B (pro) and L-1 work visas (anti)
have been introduced. But those in the know say that Congress is unlikely
to be addressing these issues anytime soon. In fact, they will likely
be put off until 2005, simply because they have "more important"
issues on their plates
