Shaib Walnut celebrate 541st Nanakshahi New Year.

On the Evening of March 13, 2009 Sri Guru Singh Sabha,
Walnut has celebrated Nanakshahi New Year ( 1st Chatter) in the
Diamond Bar City, California. Thousands of people gathered at the
Shri Guru Singh Sabha, Walnut, to celebrate the 541th Nanakshahi
Year. People from other Gurudwaras came to celebrate a new year
and new start by taking part in joyous religious festivities.
There were over fifteen stalls serving different types
of foods, snacks and sweets including Dahi Bhalla, Alloo Chat, Chat
Papri, Ice cream, various Indian Sweets, Sambhar Vada, Chhole Puri,
Cold Drinks, Tea, Maal Puras, Sandwiches, Corn Candy, Fresh Salty
Corn, Samosa and Gol Gappa. The volunteers were taking part in serving
the langar and other activities
The langar sewa was provided by Dr. Jagdish Singh
and Bibi Palwinder Kaur family.
On this great occasion, inside the Gurudwara, various Ragi Jathas
Sang Kirtan and created a welcoming atmosphere as not only Sikhs
but also other Indian communities as well. Families and Friends
Wished Happy New Year after Ardas Sikh Kaum Di Chardi Kala Lai and
the langer was served from 7:30 onwards. The Children and the Sangat
also enjoyed the fireworks display by the professionals at about
9:30 pm..
New Year’s Day falls annually on March 14. The Gurudwara
, Walnut was very pleased by the support of the sangat of southern
California. Gurudwara Walnut will continue to celebrate major Sikh
events in order to spread the awareness about the Sikhism and Punjabi
community in Southern California.
It is expected that the new standardized Sikh calendar will help
Sikhs in making arrangements for celebrating upcoming events that
related to Sikh history. This should lead to a better organization
as well as more unified approach to community events of importance.
