Mouse infestation grocery store closes in UK
Leicester, March, 05, 2009
Satnam Bajwa/ Gary Singh
Is your surname Patel? Congratulations- you are officially more
likely to be a multi-millionaire than anyone else in the country.
And if you aren't yet wealthy, you're likely to become so.
Usually in USA, patels own major businesses (Gas Stations, Hotels,
Grocery Stores, etc)or if smart- become doctors. Mostly Grocery
Stores are kept very clean by Patels
Abhinay Enterprises in East Midlands town of Leicester, was closed
when health inspectors found mouse droppings near food and other
unhygienic instances in the shop. In the past four years, it was
the third time, this store was closed.
Inspector Alison Cadmore told the local court:
- On February 25, she visited the shop, mouse droppings were found
throughout the shop and food, which had been gnawed, was within
reach of customers.
- She noticed mouse
droppings on the shelves to the front of the counter
- And, when she looked behind her, she could see mouse droppings
on the shelves along the wall.
- She found two packs of 'papdi', a snack, on the shelves which
had been gnawed by mice.
- Mr Patel told me that 'papdi were not for sale and they did
not stock them any more. The packets were accessible to customers.
Satnam said: This place was creepy!!! I got the feeling that everything
was old!!!
Is food from these kinds of store safe?" Which makes us wonder
about the pros and cons of e. coli and rats.
If anyone can shed light on the hours Health Inspectors work,
please tell us, because we wonder if the Health Department should
be visiting more locations
---------------------
Why are people so surprised at the unsanitary conditions in these
stores? On e of the primary ways to keep food costs low is to have
low staff numbers and low wages. Consequently there are fewer people
to maintain hygiene and other services to customers. You cannot
have it both ways. If the public had a different attitude , they
would accept higher food prices and also higher employment for local
workers, then all would benefit.
