NRI Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google announced that Google
would be investing $10 billion in India’s digitisation fund

NRI  Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and parent company Alphabet, on Friday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington, after which the executive announced that his organisation would be investing $10 billion in India’s digitisation fund. Google will concentrated in 4 projects:

  1. Enabling affordable access and information for every Indian in their own language.
  2. Building new services that are relevant to India’s unique needs.
  3. Empowering businesses as they embark on digital transformation.
  4. Leveraging technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for social good.

“It was an honour to meet PM Modi during the historic visit to the US,” Said Sundar Pichai.

  • Google  is already running offices in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Gurgaon – Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Pune, since 2004
  • Google  is building models to support over 100 Indian languages to support open sourcing of speech data through India’s Bhashini project.

Pichai met Prime Minister Modi here on Friday and also announced the opening of Google’s global fintech operation centre in the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) in Gandhinagar.

  • It will open a Google Fintech Global Operations Center in GIFT City, Gujarat, with teams working on specialised operations supporting GPay and other product operations at Google.
  • This recognises India’s leadership on fintech and will support small and large businesses in India, the US and around the world
