Finance Minister of India presents NRI award to NRI G.P. Hinduja

London, March 13, 2015

NRI industrialist G P Hinduja was presented inaugural NRI Foundation Award by  Arun Jaitley, Finance Minister of India for  his philanthropic work in Britain and India.

"The roadmap for us is very clear. We need a lot of investment in India and we need to ease the process of doing business in India and therefore slowly we are introducing changes in that direction," Arun Jaitley said. "We are trying to rationalise taxes, lower taxes and introduce a non-adversarial and fair system of taxation. There is a raging ideological battle between reform and obstruction. The government is fairly determined."

"NRIs are in a unique position. It has become a very powerful and dominant force in this country with the proud privilege of being both British and being Indian," Jaitley said at the awards ceremony. "The India-UK partnership is furthered by a very strong 1.5 million British Indian community, which has come into this land, adopted it as its own and probably will go down as one of the most extrovert communities anywhere in the world."

NRI Foundation Award winners were 'Garavi Gujarat' magazine, Asian Media and Marketing Group, UK Government's Dealmaker for India Alpesh Patel and Lloyds Banking Group's Head of Responsible Business Kamel Hothi.

NRI Foundation Award ceremony was hosted by UK energy minister Baroness Sandy Verma.  Sandip Verma, Baroness Verma  Born in Amritsar, was formerly a Government Whip and Spokesperson for the Cabinet Office, International Development and Equalities and Women's Issues

NRI Hinduja brothers, Srichand and Gopichand Hinduja, have emerged as the richest men in Britain with a net wealth of 11.9 billion pounds (about $20 billion), according to a report.

The owners of the global conglomerate Hinduja Group saw their fortune rise by 1.3 billion pounds during last year, the Daily Mail reported citing the 2014 Sunday Times Rich List.  Net Worth As of 3/15/15 ---  $14.5 Billion.
