Rachana Bhowmik on Obama Transition Team

Rachana Bhowmik served as Legislative Counsel
to Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, named on Obama Transition
Team. She will serve as members of the state, national security,
defense, intelligence and arms control and a member of the Senate
Foreign Relations Committee.

Rachana Bhowmik currently serves as Legislative Counsel to Senator
Barack Obama of Illinois. She handles civil rights, civil liberties,
and national security issues such as intelligence, homeland security,
and veterans issues for the Senator. Senator Obama is a member
of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the Senate Veterans
Affairs Committee, and the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental
Affairs Committee. Ms. Bhowmik staffs the senator’s work
on the Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security and Governmental
Affairs Committees.
Prior to joining Senator Obama’s staff, Rachana Bhowmik
served for three years as Judiciary and Education Counsel for
Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon. On Senator Wyden’s staff she
handled defense, homeland security, privacy, economic development,
international trade, judiciary, and education issues.
Before coming to the Hill, she was staff attorney for the Brady
Center to Prevent Gun Violence, and an associate at the Washington,
D.C. law firm of Collier, Shannon, Rill and Scott, where she was
a member of the International Trade group representing U.S. companies
in international trade disputes.
Rachana Bhowmik is a graduate of the University of Virginia,
School of Law in Charlottesville, Virginia, and Yale University
in New Haven, Connecticut.
