Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following his State Visit to the United States in June 2023, is set to return in September 2024 to address a major gathering of the Indian diaspora. The event, titled "Modi & US Progress Together," will be held on September 22 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. Although the venue has a seating capacity of 15,000, over 24,000 Indian Americans have registered to attend, according to the Indo-American Community of USA (IACU), the event's organizer.
The IACU revealed that registrations were facilitated through 590 community organizations across the U.S., with strong participation expected from the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut). The event aims to celebrate the diversity of the Indian-American community, with attendees representing a wide range of religious groups and languages. In addition to PM Modi's address, the program will feature cultural performances and appearances by notable Indian Americans in various fields.
PM Modi is also scheduled to address the high-level session of the UN General Assembly on September 26, according to a provisional list of speakers released by the UN. This visit comes just weeks before the U.S. presidential election, adding a significant diplomatic dimension to Modi’s engagements.
This event marks a decade since Modi's first major U.S. community gathering at Madison Square Garden in 2014, and follows the successful 2019 "Howdy Modi" event in Houston. The IACU has emphasized its commitment to accommodating as many attendees as possible, reflecting the strong enthusiasm within the Indian-American community for the Prime Minister’s visit.
