NRI, Ajay Kuntamukkala appointed to Bush administration

NRI, lawyer who is a very expert advocate of South Asian issues has been appointed to the Bush administration.

Effective September 2, NRI Ajay Kuntamukkala will join as special assistant to Under Secretary Kenneth Juster in the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), Department of Commerc.

Kuntamukkala has worked as an associate in the Washington office of Hogan & Hartson L.L.P. and a member of the firm's International Trade Group. His practice included assisting clients with export control and sanctions compliance, international trade litigation, international trade policy and business immigration matters. His vast experience is expected to help him in his work at BIS which is basically to advance U.S. national security, foreign policy, and economic interests.

BIS' activities include regulating the export of sensitive goods and technologies in an effective and efficient manner; enforcing export control, anti-boycott, and public safety laws; cooperating with and assisting other countries on export control and strategic trade issues; assisting U.S. industry to comply with international arms control agreements; monitoring the viability of the U.S. defence industrial base; and promoting federal initiatives and public-private partnerships to protect the nation's critical infrastructures.

Ajay's parents migrated from Andhra Pradesh and he graduated from Georgetown University with Law degree.He was a member of the law school's international journal, Law and Policy in International Business. He also went to Boston to do his bachelor's degree in political science. He received a masters in public policy from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, where he studied international trade and financial policy. He is also a member of the District of Columbia and Maryland Bars.

Ajay is the president of the South Asian Bar Association in Washington
