SAD’S FIRST CONFERENCE IN  CANADA TURNS OUT BE A BIG SUCCESS
 DHINDSA AND CHEEMA HIGHLIGHT THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE SAD-BJP GOVERNMENT BEFORE NRIs

Chandigarh, September  13 :  

The Shiromani Akali Dal’s first ever conference in Toronto turns out to be big success when NRIs turned out in large numbers to listen to the visiting party leaders. The conference was  jointly addressed by the SAD Secretary General Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and SAD Secretary and Spokesman Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema.

     This was the first such large gathering organised by the city unit of SAD along with International Punjabi Cultural and  Sports Association in Canada after the cancellation of proposed visit of the SAD President and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal.

While addressing the NRIs  the SAD Secretary General Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa congratulated the people of Canada for successfully organising the event which has turned out be a first such big Akali Conference. Mr. Dhindsa said that the we are proud of the achievements of the Punjabis settled in Canada and other parts of the world. He said that it is encouraging to see that Punjabis have excelled in all the fields including business, industry, agriculture and even politics. He said that it is a matter of proud that though we can have only thirteen MPs in the Indian Parliament from the state of Punjab but this number is likely to increase in Canada.

 While highlighting the steps taken by the Punjab government to help the NRI community,  Mr. Dhindsa said that our effort has always been that the Punjabi diaspora remains attached to its roots, its culture and its heritage. He made a special mention of Virasat- E- Khalsa and other memorials built by S. Parkash Singh Badal to preserve the history in the right perspective. Mr. Dhindsa also appealed to the different akali factions to sink their difference and unite for strengthening the SAD. He said that in Punjab their were many splinter groups but  ultimately the people of the state have opted the SAD  the parent party which was born out of great sacrifices by our elders in the sikh Gurdwara reform movement.

   Addressing the gathering on the occassion the SAD Secretary and Spokesman Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema  especially highlighted the fact that though the freedom fighters like Baba Gurdit Singh had to struggle for a long time to enter into Canada through ‘Kamagatamaru’ ship but today the credit goes to the Punjabis settled in Canada that on the same land we have scores of Members of Parliament, good number of Legislators in the different state assemblies and other eminent Punjabis at important positions in the decision making.

    In his impressive speech Dr. Cheema clarified the doubts being expressed by NRIs regarding the fiscal position of the state and described the news as a part of systematic propaganda against the state by our political opponents. Giving facts and figures Dr. Cheema clarified that how the SAD-BJP government in Punjab has done development in field of power infrastructure and how the education and health services in Punjab has improved tremendously with the efforts of Mr. Parkash Singh Badal and S. Sukhbir Singh Badal. Dr. Cheema also assured the NRI community that Punjab government is committed to implement all the promises it had made to the NRIs during NRI sammelan and also said that majority of their demands have already been accepted by the state government.

   Speaking on the occasion Member Parliament Mr. Parm Gill and former MP Mr. Gurbax Singh Malhi welcomed the visiting dignitaries and said that the NRIs settled in Canada are looking forward to the state of Punjab for resolving the issues concerning the NRI fraternity and development of the Punjab.

     Earlier the SAD leaders were welcomed by the Toronto unit President of SAD Mr. Beant Singh Dhaliwal and President of International Punjabi Cultural and  Sports Association Mr. Karan Ghuman. Both of them appreciated the initiatives taken by government of Punjab for the welfare of NRIs.

  On the occasion a memorandum was submitted to Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa highlighting the various demands of NRIs on which Mr. Dhindsa assured the organisers that the matter will be taken up at the highest level.

     Mr. Parm Gill MP  and  other organisers honoured both the visiting leaders Mr. Dhindsa and Dr. Cheema on the occasion.
