President Donald Trump Calls Ronil Singh’s Family, local police chief and local sheriff

A wonderful young police officer… I spoke to his wife yesterday," The President said of the late Cpl. Ronil Singh at a Friday press conference.

"Where he was shot, viciously shot, for simply stopping a person who came over the border illegally. Shot, killed...he took the most beautiful picture just hours before, Christmas picture. We don’t want that happening."

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, White House Press Secretary said, “President Donald Trump has spoken to the family, offered condolences to his wife, praised Cpl. Ronil Singh’s services, the local police chief and local sheriff.

“The Police officer,  Ronil Singh was shot  by Gustavo Arriaga, a Mexican man who is in our country illegally," Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson said at a press conference last week. "He doesn't belong here. He's a criminal."

Four others are accused of aiding Virgen Mendoza while he was on the run will be back in court today. Their bail is set at $100,000 each.

In the funeral service, Newman Police Department Chief Randy Richardson told The Epoch Times that President Trump called the police unit on Jan. 3 to offer his condolences and support to them and their families.

Ronil Singh's body traveled from Modesto to Newman where crowds of people stood by to pay their respects. An Honor Guard Viewing was held at the West Side Theater between 9 a.m. and noon.

The president’s phone calls came as he is locked in a showdown with congressional Democrats over their refusal to fund his request for a border wall. Immigration officials say Perez Arriaga was never properly turned over to federal authorities despite his two previous arrests for drunk driving…… The Washington Times wrote

Suspected  in NRI FIJJI /PIO police officer-killer, captured in California, Police officials & Other Local Officials blame sanctuary law

Gustavo Perez Arriaga, 33, who was suspected of killing a California policeman, Cpl. Ronil Singh, captured after raid a home in Bakersfield. He was in the U.S. illegally and planning to flee to Mexico where he was born.

  • Gustavo Perez Arriaga crossed the border in Arizona few years ago , worked at several dairies as labor and had gang affiliations.

  • The police also arrested seven other people, including  his brothers, Adrian Virgen- 25; Conrado Virgen Mendoza- 34; his girlfriend, 30-year-old Ana Leyde Cervantes; and a co-worker, 27-year-old Erik Razo Quiroz. Three people were arrested at the home near Bakersfield.

California's sanctuary law Blamed: 

  • Investigator of this case, Sheriff Adam Christianson had blamed California's sanctuary law for preventing local authorities from reporting Perez Arriaga to U.S. immigration officials for deportation after two previous drunken driving arrests.

  • Sheriff Adam Christianson said: "We can't ignore the fact that this could have been preventable and asked why the state was "providing sanctuary for criminals (and) gang members. It's a conversation we need to have."

  • This sanctuary law limits cooperation between local authorities and U.S. immigration officials and has drawn scorn from the Trump administration. This law also bar police from asking people about their citizenship status.

Newman Police Cpl. Ronil Singh was shot and killed during a traffic stop just before 1:00 AM on 12/26/18. At 12:57 AM, Officer Singh called off on a traffic stop at Merced Street and Eucalyptus Avenue in Newman. A few moments later he called out “shots fired” over the radio. Multiple agencies responded to assist and Singh was found at the scene with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. -

Newman Police Chief Randy Richardson fought back tears as he described Singh, a 33-year-old with a newborn son, as an "American patriot."
"He came to America with one purpose, and that was to serve this country," Richardson said.

"This suspect is in our country illegally. He doesn't belong here. He is a criminal," Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson.

Surveillance footage shows the suspect in connection to the fatal shooting of Ronil Singh

The Police won't yet name the man who killed Singh. The police is looking for a man seen in surveillance photos at a convenience store shortly before Singh was killed.


The Modesto Bee reported: A truck believed to have been the one stopped by Singh was later found in a garage in a mobile home park about 4 miles from the shooting, where law enforcement officers were serving a search warrant,. Investigators were examining the vehicle.

The attacker is still on the loose. Authorities are looking for a man seen in surveillance photos at a convenience store shortly before Singh was killed


Trump tweeted about Singh's killing Thursday, saying it's "time to get tough on Border Security." He ended the post with: "Build the Wall!"

Ronil Singh posted pictures on Christmas Eve from a deep-sea fishing trip that produced a big haul of crabs and fish. His profile picture shows him smiling as he stands at a patrol car with his police dog.

  • Ronil Singh came to the U.S. from Fiji with his parents to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming an officer.
  • Ronil Singh studied criminal justice at Modesto Junior College in 2005 and began working at the Newman agency in 2011.
  • He previously was employed at the Turlock Police Department and as a reserve at the Merced County Sheriff’s Department.
  • He drove more than two hours each way to attend the police academy in Yuba City, Richardson said.
  • He worked as an animal control officer in Turlock before being hired by the Newman force in 2011.

 

He is survived by his wife, Anamika, and their 5-month-old son.
