An Indian-origin man has been apprehended in connection with a fatal shooting incident in Middlesex County, New Jersey.

Authorities identified and detained Gaurav Gill following the shooting in Carteret on June 12, 2024, which resulted in the death of 29-year-old Jasvir Kaur and left another woman critically injured.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Carteret Police Chief Dennis McFadden announced Gill's arrest and the charges against him, including first-degree murder and multiple weapon-related offenses.

Detectives Keith Cassens and Javier Morillo led the investigation that led to Gill's capture. He is currently held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing.

Both the victim and the suspect were reportedly from Punjab, India, and had known each other from their time in Jalandhar attending IELTS coaching classes.

The Indian Consulate in New York expressed condolences for the tragedy, offering support to the victims' families and coordinating with local authorities on the case.
