NRI Canadian woman Rajvinder Kaur Gill murdered in Pakistan

NRI BC,Candaian, Rajvindar Kaur Gill, 30, a business woman deeling with gems, went to Lahore, Pakistan on August 25, 2012 to try to settle a financial dispute, has been killed in eastern Pakistan.

According to her lawyer:

  • She was missing since August and her body dumped in a canal by a man who owed her money
  • A suspect, Hafiz Shahzad Hussain confessed to killing the woman and the suspect also confessed to working with a German of Pakistani origin Shahid Ghazanfar who was involved in the dispute, and together they killed the woman.

Hafiz Shahzad Hussain said:

  • His cousin Shahid Ghazanfar and Rajvindar had known each other for a long time.Ghazanfar had borrowed some money from Rajvindar and promised to pay her back when she came to Lahore
  • Ghazanfar also hid his real identity from Rajvindar and had told her that he was a Hindu
  • Ghazanfar offered me some money if I helped him kill Rajvindar Gill. I agreed.
  • On August 25, we received her at Lahore airport.
  • She stayed in a hotel for a few days,AND we picked her up on the pretext of striking a diamond deal with a local businessman.
  • We drove her to Sheikhupura,40 km from Lahore. On the way, Ghazanfar gave her tea mixed with sedatives to make her lose consciousness and then strangled her with a rope.
  • We dumped the body in a canal off the Lahore-Sheikhupura road

The court had written to Interpol to seek the arrest of the main accused in the case, who was a German of Pakistani-origin and had fled to Germany. Gill’s body search is being conducted on basis of information provided by Hussain.

Her father Sikandar Gill with tears in his eyes told outside the court room that he wanted justice from the Pakistani court. Her father said Rajvindar had moved from Canada to Switzerland after she got a job in a bank in Zurich.

She was distantly related to Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. The case of NRI Gill was taken up by Badal with Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab Shahbaz Sharif during his visit last year.

A laptop belonging to Rajvinder Kaur Gill had been recovered from one of the accused involved in the murder and

Gill’s family identified the laptop which was sent to laboratory for data recovery.
