It is coincidence that Husband faces murder charge on day she was to give birth to 2nd child

On Monday, police announced that the husband, Mukhtiar Panghali has been charged for murder of his pregnant wife Manjit Phangali

Mukhtiar's younger brother Sukhvinder, 27, was also charged. Both men were remanded in custody till March 22, according to reports.

On Friday, Sukhvinder Panghali was arrested when he tried to escape custody and there was an altercation in which a police officer was injured. He was also charged with assault causing bodily harm, attempting to escape, assaulting a police officer and obstruction of justice. Const. Sharlene Brooks said the police officer required surgery and remains in hospital.

Manjit's sister Jasmine Bhambra told a police news conference, "Yesterday was supposed to be Manjit Panghali's due date for the birth of her second child." It is very bittersweet moment' for expectant mother's family. It was a tragic coincidence that the the same day, Mukhtiar was arrested.

“We should be in the hospital right now welcoming the newest member of our family,” she said as Manjit Panghali's father held up a picture of his daughter and wiped away tears. Manjit Panghali, who was four months pregnant with her second child, disappeared after a prenatal yoga class.

Mukhtiar Panghali's lawyer, Spencer Lewis, has said his client didn't want a distant relative by marriage to supervise visits with his daughter.
