Nikki Rana, winner of the Miss India UK title, will
join winners from 35 other countries participating
in the Miss India Worldwide Crown contest to be held
in Mumbai Feb 4.
Tipped as one of the strong favourites, Rana, 20,
is a student of the University of Leicester.
Amrita Hunjan, the current Miss India Worldwide title
holder and last year's Miss India UK winner, said:
"I think she will take the world title, Nikki
is extremely strong in all areas, she has a great
look and is very confident and intelligent, I wish
her well.
"It would be great for the UK if she wins and
retains the crown I worked hard to win last year and
I would be delighted to crown her again."
Before leaving for Mumbai, Rana said: "I am
really looking forward to the world finals and proud
to be representing the UK at a global event. There
is some pressure on me to win this event since Amrita
won it last year.
"Whatever happens I am sure it is going to be
a great experience and I will look to enjoy every
minute of it. It is my ambition to become a Bollywood
actress and this is the best platform anyone can ask
for... this is a dream come true to me and I will
make it count'.
Miss India UK event director Sam Samra told IANS:
"Nikki stands a good chance of taking the crown,
she has the height and a good look and I would be
very surprised if she does not win a placing in the
top three at the very least."
The India Festival Committee (IFC), a voluntary organisation
established in 1974 and based in New York, has been
organising the Miss India Worldwide contest every
year since 1990.
The contest has provided young Indian women the opportunity
to compete at the international level and support
various charitable causes.
